Sunset, Utah is one of several communities in the Ogden Metropolitan area of Utah. Sunset is a small community of just under 6,000 people. It lies east of the Hill Air Force Base which is a major employer in the area.

Sunset was part of several communities settled originally by mountain trappers who wanted trading posts to conduct their fur trade. Nestled near the Wasatch Mountains, the town has four seasons of weather. Residents tend to be active, outdoors types of people. The community offers a full range of winter sports including skiing, snowboarding, x-sports and mountain climbing. Hiking trails are popular in both winter and summer. During summer, the lakes and rivers provide river rafting, fishing, kayaking and boating. Several parks in the area encourage camping by RV or tents. Cabins can also be rented.

The local city has several yearly festivals. A winter festival held at the beginning of February kicks off the end of winter and celebrates the appearance of Sunset Sam. Sam predicts the end of winter. If he sees his shadow, there is another six weeks of winter. The festival is a family event and quite popular. Several professional sports events are held in this area featuring top winter athletes.

Sunset Rentals Utah

Another large yearly festival is the Family Fun Days held in June each year. Scheduled over a weekend, this festival celebrates the end of school and the opening of summer. Highlights of the festival a Friday fun night with a movie in two of the local parks, a large car show on Saturday along with an art festival and community breakfast on Saturday. And, of course, there is a parade and fireworks. This event is a year in the planning.

Organized sports are quite popular for area’s children. There are baseball fields that support Little League and softball leagues, along with a youth basketball program which is sponsored by the Utah Jazz basketball team. Children are especially welcome in the community.

Highway 15 is the main highway near the town. The center of town is about 40 miles from Salt Lake City, so the major airport is the SLC. Buses are also available for commuting around the area, but most people drive to reach destinations. Railroads are an option, but they also focus on reaching the Salt Lake City area, instead of Ogden.

Popular in the city are trip to the Hill Air Force Base Aerospace Museum. Many visitors to the area rate this museum as the number one attraction in the area. This museum has many hands-on exhibits and has quite a few Air Force fighters on display. Technology is popular in this area, which several companies getting their start in the Ogden area such as Atari and WordPerfect.

The Federal government is another large employer in the area, with a large Internal Revenue Processing Center in Ogden. Seasonal employees are common to the ski and tourist areas in the area. Of course, the usual service companies also offer citizens employment in the town limits.

The railroad played a major part in the development of this area. The town is near Promontory Point where the western and eastern railroads are joined together. The Ogden area used to advertise that all coast to coast travelers go through Utah. However, the railroads were recounted through Salt Lake City, bypassing the Ogden area. There are several rail museums in the area celebrating the railroads.

The average age in the town is 29. Half of the citizens are married with families, and most are of the Mormon faith. Other faiths include the Jewish, Catholic and Muslin faiths. The cost of living in this community is about 13% below the national average. The average price of homes is about $200,000 and the average family income is about $48,000. Most citizens are registered Republicans in this conservative part of the country.
