The Air Force Base began its official operations in November of 1940. The base is named after Major Ployer Peter Hill, who was killed in an experimental aircraft crash, flying in an aircraft that later became the B-17 Flying Fortress.
The base has served as a vital operations center from World War II until present day, providing critical support to military operations all over the globe. The base was renamed Hill Air Force Base in February of 1948. Today the base ranks as Utah’s largest employer.
