History of the City
The earliest history involving what was to become known as Harrisville dates back to 1850. Urban Stewart built the first log home in the settlement; it was only about 300 yards away from the settlement chapel of the LDS (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). The city officially received its name in 1863 when it was organized as a county precinct. At one time, two railroad lines ran through the township, the Central Pacific Railroad and the Union Pacific Railroad. Even with all of its history, the settlement only became an incorporated township in April of 1962.
